RM Hamm Benfica and player LXBFIFA become Orange eLeague champions

Press Release
Press Release

Luxembourg, May 19th 2021

This weekend saw the finals of the Orange eLeague, the first official FIFA eLeague in Luxembourg. Gathered in the brand new complex dedicated to indoor football, The Loft, in Contern, the three finalists of each category "team" and "individual" competed for the right to represent Luxembourg at the FIFA eWorld Cup qualifications.

Esport was in the spotlight this weekend in the brand new indoor football complex in Contern, The Loft. For the grand final of the first edition of the Orange eLeague, the competing teams were able to physically meet there to compete in FIFA 21, while respecting sanitary measures, with the controller in hand. This unique competition, organised by the Luxembourg Football Federation (LFF), the Luxembourg Esports Federation (LESF) and Orange Luxembourg, offered 32 clubs from the national and honorary divisions the opportunity to compete in FIFA 2021. Each club was represented by a team of two players. At the same time, an individual tournament allowed the 64 participating players to showcase their talent in the must-have football video game.

Three players crowned

At the end of the first season of the official FIFA Esport League in Luxembourg on Saturday, RM Hamm Benfica, represented by the player duo xFabinhoo and Ivanilson, was crowned champion in the team competition. In the final round, they were up against UN Käerjeng 97 (2nd) and Swift Hesperange (3rd). On Sunday, the final of the 'individual' tournament was between Ivanilson, xFabinhoo and Hostert's LXBFIFA. The latter won the trophy after some very exciting games. Prior to the grand final on Sunday, an exhibition match was played between the two players of the national football team, Jill De Bruyn (Sc Ell) and Lena Krier (Sc Bettembourg), and their coach Daniel SANTOS. The two players then took part in the prize-giving ceremony.

A real enthusiasm from the clubs

Between March and May, there were qualifying rounds, play-offs and finally the final. A total of 70 matches were played.

Gilles FABER, LFF representative

The first season was very positive and the enthusiasm of the 32 clubs in the national and honorary divisions was very encouraging. In this period of Covid-19, this first edition of the Orange eLeague, in good collaboration with the LESF and Orange Luxembourg, has contributed to accelerate the adoption of the discipline in Luxembourg. It also helped to maintain the link with the clubs, players and fans.

The competition could be seen on RTL Play and on Twitch.

On the way to the regional finals

This first edition of the Orange eLeague allowed the selection of Luxembourg representatives who will be able to take part in the regional play-offs of the FIFA 21 Global Series, the final stage before the FIFA eWorld Cup.

Joe HOFFMANN, Chairman - Luxembourg Esports Federation

"At the end of this season, the club representative RM Hamm Benfica (xFabinhoo) as well as LXBFIFA, winner of the individual tournament, get a ticket to continue the competition at global level. There are real hopes that these players will go far in the competition. With this first edition of the Orange League, we are very happy with the work done to integrate Esport into the heart of the sporting community and to reach out to the football-loving public. Our desire, at this level, is to continue to work with the athletes, to better meet their expectations."

Supporting Esport and new talents

In Luxembourg, where the Esport phenomenon is really taking off, we will not miss to follow-up the evolution of these exceptional players at an international level.

Barbara FANGILLE, Head of Communication - Orange Luxembourg

"We are very proud to support and reveal these talents. Orange Luxembourg, through the deployment of the fiber in the territory, has been actively supporting the development of Esport for several years. We have been able to see many of the finalists evolve over time and it is a real pleasure to be able to help them reach new heights."
