Orange eLeague now broadcast on RTL Play

Press Release
Press Release

Luxembourg, March 29th 2021

The Orange eLeague, the first official FIFA eLeague in Luxembourg organised by Orange Luxembourg, the Luxembourg Football Federation (LFF) and the Luxembourg eSports Federation (LESF), now has increased visibility in the local media. The competition will be broadcast on RTL Play, RTL's audio and video platform, which is available everywhere and at any time.

E-sport, a discipline which refers to the playing of a video game in competition, alone or in teams, on a console or computer, is gaining in popularity in Luxembourg. The boundary between traditional and online sports seems to be gradually shrinking.

Just as you can watch football, tennis, athletics and a whole host of other sports on television or on the web, it is now also possible to follow e-sport. RTL has chosen to support e-sport and to meet the new expectations of its listeners by broadcasting the Orange eLeague on its RTL Play platform.

Pascal Casel, Business Platform & Diversification Director - RTL Luxembourg

"As RTL Luxembourg is the leading sports media in the Grand Duchy, the integration of the Orange eLeague into our existing offer is a logical next step in our development, both in terms of diversifying our activities and in terms of broadcasting our content"

All Orange eLeague matches are available on RTL Play

In this first official FIFA national league, clubs from Luxembourg's top two football divisions (the National Division and the Promotion of Honour) compete online for the title of Luxembourg club champion, while players compete for the individual champion trophy. The overall winners will have direct access to the regional playoffs of the FIFA 21 Global Series, the final stage before the FIFA eWorld Cup.

All Orange eLeague matches are broadcast on RTL Play, with streaming and commentary provided by LESF in Luxembourgish.

Joe Hoffmann, Chairman - LESF

"This broadcast on RTL Play is very important for the LESF. It allows us to reach new viewers, to give them a first knowledge of e-sports. Until now, the matches were broadcast on Twitch, a platform aimed at e-sports fans. On RTL Play, we have the opportunity to reach a wider target audience, and this is precisely one of the goals we are pursuing through LESF."

To help promote e-sports in the country

Barbara Fangille, Head of Communication - Orange Luxembourg

"We are very pleased with this partnership with RTL. Thanks to this broadcast, the Orange eLeague will benefit from greater visibility and awareness. This contributes to the promotion of e-sports in Luxembourg, which is particularly important to us given our long-standing commitment to its development in the country."
