5G: what will it change for businesses?

5G is being deployed in Luxembourg, and brings concrete improvements for companies, regardless of their business areas.

As data use grows significantly each year, 3G and 4G networks will soon be unable to support the large number of mobile Internet connections. 5G will therefore take over and effectively complement existing networks to prevent their saturation.

5G has been deployed in Luxembourg since the beginning of 2021. By 2024, 90% of the Grand Duchy should be covered by this new generation of mobile networks, which aims to become a telephone standard. The information or large files transmission is practically instantaneous which allows, among other things, to optimize the production or management processes, particularly required in the 4.0 industry. Finally, 5G allows to densify the exchange of flows and to adapt them to real-time needs. A greater number of people and terminals can connect simultaneously to the network.

Innovative daily uses

With these capacities, 5G will revolutionize digital communications for businesses. This mobile network will meet the ever-increasing need for connectivity and thus improve the organization and processes of companies. For example, companies will be able to drive operations in near-real-time, store and access thousands of data and tools in the cloud, or deploy and interconnect remote sites. They will be able to use the IoT according to their needs much more easily since, equipped with a 5G chip, these objects will be able to be permanently connected to the Internet without the need to be connected to Wi-Fi or to a wired network. Robotized, the machines will be able to communicate in real-time with the workers present in the factory.
